I recently participated in a Facebook contest that I thought was sheer genius. I wasn't the genius, but I was a contest winner! The real winner was Rebekah Blocher Designs. Her contest generated over 1,200 new "likes" for her business page in just a few days. Wouldn't you love to be able to do that too? This is what she did....
Rebekah makes handmade pottery jewelry. She designed a little owl necklace especially for this contest which she did not offer for sale....so if you wanted one of 50 owl necklaces you had to win it. Pretty easy.....all you had to do was get 15 people to "like" Rebekah Blocher Designs and then have them leave a comment on the page that you were the one who sent them over. As long as you could do this before she ran out of necklaces, or by midnight before Valentine's Day (whichever came first) you were a winner.
I learned about this when a friend asked me to help her win a necklace which I was glad to do. I was impressed with Rebekah's jewelry and that evening decided to try to win an owl necklace for myself. By this time there were only 11 left, so I had to hurry. I wrote a post asking for help from my ActiveRain friends, and I sent messages to friends that I knew were on Facebook. In no time I had way more than enough friends help me become a winner. Thank you friends!
WHAT MADE THIS CONTEST SO SUCCESSFUL? I believe first of all she had cool prizes to give away, and it was not terribly costly for Rebekah to make a bunch of these, probably more of a time investment. A lot of people participated because they knew their chances to win were pretty good, yet the elements of scarcity and urgency were there. She started with less than 300 "likes" before the contest began and had over 1,500 within days.....and she gained many new customers that until the contest had never heard of her jewelry!
CAN YOU THINK OF A GREAT PRIZE TO GIVE AWAY IN A SIMILAR CONTEST ON YOUR OWN BUSINESS PAGE?
As you might have guessed, more than 50 people participated in this contest. Rebekah made more owl necklaces so no one would be disappointed, and after many requests she is now offering them on her website in addition to all her other pretty things. She offers specials on Facebook frequently and quick order fullfillment. I should know. I'm one of her new customers.
