UPDATE ON MY DAD
6 Months of Serious Illness
And HE'S DOING SO WELL!!!
Six months ago I jumped into my SUV and headed to ReTechSouth in Atlanta....so excited to meet up with friends and get together for a fun learning opportunity! Some I had met in person at REBarCamp RDU and some for the very first time. LOVED IT! So excited to get home and begin implementing all the many new things I learned there!
Oh, but life has a way of making changes in the best of plans.......
Just a couple of hours after returning home I got the call that my Dad was rushed to the hospital and his chances of survival were slim. We gathered and faced scary stuff......REALLY scary first days....turning into weeks and months. Progress but lots of setbacks over the summer, and each time a setback came his chances of survival were less likely. It's a long story of SICU, then acute care until a week and 2 days ago....just days shy of 6 months my Dad beat all odds and left the hospital!
He has been at Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital (a miracle in itself that he was able to go here and not a nursing rehab hospital) since being "graduated" from Select Specialty Hospital. His progess in the last two weeks has been amazing and his trach has finally been removed! He is eating real food after all these months and getting stronger physically every day. Just a month ago he was bedridden and his physical therapy was limited, but his team of professionals was devoted to him and together they achieved a miracle!
This afternoon he loved getting outside and enjoying the fabulous fall weather we have been blessed with.....quite a treat after six months of being in a hospital bed! Here he is hanging out with my Mom!
My family can't begin to express our gratitude to the many healthcare professionals that have helped my Dad beat the odds and helped him work through the many challenges he faced...
